Fear Not

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. – Isaiah 41:10

There is so much fear in the world today. We fear for the future. We fear not having enough. We fear that what we have will be taken away. We fear that we don’t fit in. We fear that we are not good enough. We fear.

Our God knows our name. The Creator and Redeemer of all that is, knows who and what we are. He knows our deepest thoughts and secrets. He knows our fears. He knows who we are better than we know ourselves. Yet we fear.

God created us to be loved. He did not create us to fear. Fear came as a result of the Fall. The echoes of that primal fear are part of who we are. Yet God became man, in Christ, to redeem us. He did this for one reason only: He loves us. He is our God. He strengthens us. He helps us. He upholds us with His right hand.

What is there to fear when a God like our God says this to us?

We fear because of the shadows and lies of the evil one. These fears beset us to keep us from loving and trusting our God. They keep us from living out the rich life God intends for us. Our fear makes us withhold that which is God’s already. Our fear keeps us from understanding and rejoicing in the love and strength God gives us.

Jesus, our brother and our Lord, knew every fear we know. Read the story in the Garden of Gethsemane if you want to see the overwhelming fear that Jesus felt. He sweat blood in His fear of what was to come.

Yet, the Father was with Him, strengthened Him, upheld and glorified Him with His righteous right hand, because Jesus trusted in the promise of His Father. He had ultimate and complete faith in the promises of our Father.
The same promises are made to us. Believe in Jesus. Believe in the Father’s promises. Put away the fear. Live the rich life God prepared for you. God tells you “Fear not, for I am with you.”

Live in love, grace and faith. Live in peace. Live with joy.
